IICRC Certification: What does it mean?

As an ANSI (American National Standards Institute)-accredited Standards Developing Organization (SDO), the IICRC has led the way in establishing industry standards and reference guides for water damage restoration, mold remediation and mold assessment. This is the highest level of certification available for a mold remediator or assessor. Using an IICRC certified technician will help ensure that your home or business is a healthy environment for those who live and work there. To earn IIRC Certification, Memphis Mold Inspector attended an IICRC-approved course, successfully completed a written examination and documented skills in Water Damage Restoration and Applied Microbial Remediation.

Water Damage Restoration Technician Certification (WRT)

The WRT certification covers the procedures necessary to deal with water loses, sewer backflows and contamination such as mold. Nineteen hours of classroom study plus a proctored 140 question exam are required to complete this certification.

Applied Microbial Remediation Technician Certification (AMRT)

Memphis Mold Inspector also holds IIRC’s Applied Microbial Remediation Technician Certification (AMRT), which focuses on mold and sewage remediation techniques. MMI pursued this certification so that we could establish proper guidelines for mold testing procedures to be performed in the field. Twenty-eight hours of classroom study and a proctored 150 question exam were required to complete this certification.

All IICRC Certified Firms must:

  1. Present accurate information to consumers and conduct business with honesty and integrity.
  2. Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.
  3. Require a continuing education program to keep with the latest changes in the industry.
  4. Maintain liability insurance to protect all parties in the event of an accident.

The IICRC S520 Reference Guide frequently references the recommendation that an independent indoor environmental professional (like Memphis Mold Inspector) be used to test. Utilizing an objective, certified mold professional for testing helps ensure accurate, honest results.

Memphis Mold Inspector is proud to be the only IICRC Certified Indoor Environmental Testing Professional (IEP) in the Memphis area.
